4 Common Heat Pump Issues During Wintertime

Heat pumps are a popular option for many homeowners. It’s important to ensure your home’s heating system is ready to keep your family warm as temperatures drop during winter. The following are four common heat pump issues that may occur in Daytona Beach, FL.

Frozen Coils on the Outdoor Unit

Ice build-up on the outdoor unit of your heat pump can cause the coils inside your unit to freeze. The defrost cycle should kick on automatically. But if there seems to be an issue, such as the heat isn’t working properly after giving it a little time, you should have it checked to determine the problem.

Low Refrigerant Levels

Refrigerant is essential to any heat pump’s operation. It helps transfer heat from the outdoors to indoors and vice versa. Low refrigerant levels, which are often caused by leaks, can lead to poor performance and reduced efficiency. If you suspect an issue, such as the heat isn’t operating at full capacity, the leak needs immediate professional repair.

Airflow Issues

Good airflow is essential for proper heat pump operation. If airflow becomes restricted due to dirt or debris build-up on filters or ducts, it can lead to temperature fluctuations and other issues, like uneven heating throughout the home. Inspect all filters regularly and have them replaced or repaired when necessary, typically every few months and/or during HVAC maintenance.

Fan Motor Malfunction

Indicators of a malfunctioning fan motor on a heat pump could range from strange noises to the fan simply refusing to turn on. The fan will either need to be cleared of debris by a professional or need a repair or a replacement.

Contact Arctic Breeze Air Conditioning & Heating if you’re experiencing any issues with your heat pump and believe a repair is necessary. We can help ensure you and your family are comfortable all winter long.
